(Mahurangi Regional Park)

This regional park at the entrance to Mahurangi Harbour offers 3 sheltered bays that are ideal for swimming, walking and picnicking. Walking tracks connect the bays and offer superb costal views.

Muhurangi Regional Park is divided into 3 sections - Mahurangi West, Scott's Point and Mahurangi East (only accessible by boat). To get to Mahurangi West, head north along SH1 past Wenderholm and turn right onto Mahurangi West Road. Turn right onto Ngarewa Drive and continue to the carpark at Sullivans (Otarawao) Bay.

Sullivans (Otarawao) Bay offers white sand and safe swimming near high-tide. Behind the beach is a grassy reserve with Pohutukawa trees that offer shade for a picnic.

From the northern end of the bay, the Mita Bay Loop Track (2hr) climbs over the headland and down to Mita Bay, offering panoramic views out over both bays along the way. Alternatively, the Cudlips Point Loop Track (2hr) climbs from the southern end of Sullivans Bay up to Cudlip Point, again offering great coastal views. This walk connects with Te Muri Loop Track (3hr) which takes in Te Muri Beach.

(Area)

Tussock grasses or bunch grasses are found as native plants in natural ecosystems, as forage in pastures, and as ornamental grasses in gardens. Tussock and bunch grasses, in the Poaceae family, are grasses that usually grow as singular plants in clumps, tufts, hummocks, or bunches, rather than forming a sod or lawn, in meadows, grasslands, and prairies. As perennial plants usually, they live more than one season

Many species have long roots that may reach 2-metre (6.6 ft) or more into the soil, which can aid slope stabilization, erosion control, and soil porosity for precipitation absorption. Also, their roots can reach moisture more deeply than other grasses and annual plants during seasonal or climatic droughts. The plants provide habitat and food for insects (including Lepidoptera), birds, small animals and larger herbivores, and support beneficial soil mycorrhiza. The leaves supply material, such as for basket weaving, for indigenous peoples and contemporary artists.

Tussock and bunch grasses occur in almost any habitat where other grasses are found, including: grasslands, savannas and prairies, wetlands and estuaries, riparian zones, shrublands and scrublands, woodlands and forests, montane and alpine zones, tundra and dunes, and deserts.

Visitors will see beautiful  Pohutukawa trees clinging to the steep cliffs(해안가 가파른 낭떨어지에 메달려서 자라는 나무). There's a beautiful on around here on a grass verge. It's only ten foot tall but naturally shaped like a christmas tree and in full red flowers

Wenderholm Regional Park(웬더 홈 리지오날 파크)

Wenderholm Regional Park(개요) is the first regional park of the Auckland Region, New Zealand. Situated between the estuaries of the Puhoi River and the Waiwera River, on the east coast of New Zealand's North Island, the park features a homestead known as Couldrey House, and a carved pouwhenua. This park also features a Maungatauhoro Te Hikoi walk, starting at the carved pouwhenua near the Couldrey House, and allows the park visitors to see scenic views and birdlife. The park has its own resident artist, and part is sectioned off for ecological restoration.

History(역사) : For 1000 years, Maori had lived in this park, because of all the natural resources it had featured. The Auckland politician and enterpreur Sir Robert Graham protected many of the ancient trees in the area from felling to be used for timber for ships. He went on to build a homestead in the park (now known as the Couldrey House). Many of the historic trees in the park were given as gifts to Robert Graham from George Grey. The park has a resident artist, Nic Moon, provided by Auckland Regional Council. Her role is to create works specifically for the site, including some that involve the trees themselves.

Ecological restoration(생태적인 복구) : A 60 hectares (150 acres) section of the park has been set aside since 1965 for an ecological experiment, stopping livestock from grazing and repopulating the forests. This allowed native species of birds which were no longer in the area to be re-introduced in 1999. one of the first species released into the area Petroica australis longipes (North Island robins) has a generally high rate of survival and procreated a good number of young, unfortunately not high enough to compensate for the loss of the adult population.

Native trees(원시림) : The native bush of the park is the Pohutukawa, with the blaze of red in the summer, on the slopes facing north is the Kowhai bush which are covered with yellow blooms in the spring, and the low-laying sandspit

(Prominent Auckland politician and entrepreneur Robert Graham became the first owner in 1868). (Graham built a homestead(Wenderholm) on the flat, to use while he spent time at his Waiwera thermal resort in winter).
