The course was designed by Alister MacKenzie, who also designed the likes of Augusta National, Cypress Point and the Royal Melbourne. Visitors are welcome but forward booking is advised.

3. Wainui Golf Course

Families, casual players and more competitive golfers all have something at the Wainui Golf Course. The Wainui Golf Course is in Rodney, about 30 minutes drive north of Auckland city. Play among the exotic trees on either the 9-hole, 18-hole or “footgolf” course. There’s also The View restaurant offering fine foods in a fine setting. Green tees and gear hire is offered a package to international visitors.

4. Windcross Farm Golf Course

Set among the stunning tussock grasslands, rolling greens and tranquil lakes, Windcross Farm has fun natural hazards to tackle. While there’s flexibility in the course, with a wide choice of holes to start from, the course ensures a high standard of course etiquette and dress code for the real golfing experience.

5. Huapai Golf Course

If you’re looking for more of a casual game with friends, then try out Auckland’s best-kept secret. Huapai Golf Course is just 20 minutes drive south of Auckland city set alongside the Waitemata Harbour. 9-hole and 18-hole games are extremely affordable for visitors on this 6,000m (6,562-yard) course.
