산악과 호반의 땅이라 불리우는 퀸스타운은 서부해안의 산맥들을 끼고 있으며 근처의 리얼산에서 금,은,구리가 발견된 후 1897년에 세워진 도시로 남섬의 남부에 S자모양을 한 와카티푸호수의 북쪽호반에 위치하고 있다. 빅토리아 여왕을 기념해서 지어진 이름으로 1907년에 지방 자치체가 되었는데. 서쪽 40km 지점의 스트로언 항과,동쪽 254km 지점의 호바트까지 연결되는 리얼 고속도로를 사이에 두고 있다.

 

하늘이 내려주신 장소라고 말할 수 있을 만큼 천애의 경관을 자랑하는 곳으로 서던 알프스에 등지고 있는 도시이며. 주변에는 이 도시를 품에 안은 듯 산이 둘러 싸여져 있고 그 위에는 옛날의 광부들이 캐었던 금을 뿌려 높은 것처럼 찬란히 반짝이는 호수를 끼고 있다.

 

퀸스타운은 뉴질랜드 골프 여행지로 총애를 받는 지역이다. 퀸스타운 공항에서 20분 내에 갈 수 있는 골프장은 4곳이 있다. 모든 골프장은 이름 그대로 경이로울 수밖에 없는 리마 커블스(Remarkables) 산맥과 호수를 끼고 있어 지독한 골프광이라 해도 퀸스타운의 자연에 한 눈을 팔게 할 정도다. 혹은 골프를 좋아하지 않더라도 여유로운 휴식과 수많은 액티비티로 시간 가는 줄 모르는 곳이 바로 퀸스타운이다.

 

다른 곳을 여행하다가 퀸스타운에 도착한 순간이나 퀸스타운의 아름다운 골프 코스에 마음이 빼앗긴 순간은 마치 긴 퍼팅을 성공시킨 후 우승컵을 안게 되었을 때의 기쁨이랄까. 짜릿하다. 퀸스타운이 세계적인 골프대회를 개최하게 된 데에는 자연과 사람이 만들어낸 조화가 있다. 2014년 NZ 오픈전이 치러지기도 했던 퀸스타운 일대 골프장 4곳을 자세히 소개해 본다.

1) 밀브룩 골프 코스(Millbrook Golf Course)

밀브룩 골프 코스는 미국 클린턴 전 대통령이 APEC 정상회담 참석차 뉴질랜드를 방문했을 당시 라운딩을 즐긴 곳으로 유명하다. 리마커블스 산맥의 솟아오른 높은 산 사이에 자리 잡아 거친 고산 지형의 장점을 최대한 활용해 지어 졌다.

 

멀리 보이는 만년설과 코스 내의 구릉, 주변을 흐르는 시냇물 등 뉴질랜드를 방문한 골프 애호가라면 한 번쯤 라운딩을 하고 싶을 만큼의 아름다운 자연과 알파인 골프코스, 시설을 자랑한다. 총 6412m 의 코스, 파 72, 18홀로 이뤄져 있고 잘 손질된 벙커와 함께 페어웨이, 그린이 갖춰져 있다. 175개 객실을 갖춘 부티크 호텔, 스파, 컨퍼런스 룸, 레스토랑, 까페 등이 들어서 있어 골프뿐 아니라 조용한 여행을 즐기려는 사람들에게 완벽한 휴식과 편의를 제공한다.

- 라운딩 요금은 3개 시즌별로 다르며 대략 비지터(Visitor) 기준  NZ$180 - NZ$150에 전동카트 요금 NZ$55(GPS 제공되는 카트)은 별도로서 퀸스타운에서 제일 비싼 편이며,  

   코스는 총 6412m 의 코스, 파 72.

- 연간 멤버쉽 비용은 스파, 수용장 헬스 등 모든 시설을 이용할 수 있고 가족 누구나 이용할 수 있는 것으로 클럽 죠인 요금은 자그만치 NZ$25,000(NZ$6,250씩 4년 분할 납부 가능)과 함께

   연간 NZ$2,500 이다.

 

2) 퀸스타운 골프 클럽(Queenstown Golf Course)

아름다운 퀸스타운 호수를 끼고 있는 퀸스타운 골프장은 반도 지형에 위치한 퍼블릭 코스이다. 세계에서 가장 그림같이 아름다운 곳에 위치한 골프 코스 중 하나이며, 퀸스타운의 아름다운 동네이면서 와카티푸 호수의 크리스탈 같은 맑은 물로 들러쌓인 케빈 하이트 반도자락에 위치하고 있다. 총 6103m 의 코스, 파 72,74(여자)(The Queenstown Golf Club has been described as one of the most picturesque golf courses in the world. Located on the Kelvin Heights peninsula, surrounded by the crystal clear waters of the Lake Wakatipu you will see why it is difficult to keep your head down! 3) 에로우 타운 골프 클럽(Arrowtown Golf Course)

그림 같은 에로우 타운 골프장은 뉴질랜드 2014년 3월달에 밀부룩 골프장과 함께 뉴질랜드 골프 챔피언 쉽  대회를 치렀던 골프장으로서 이 곳 주변에서 가장 역사적이고 가장 가을 풍경이 아름다운 지역인 센츄널 오타고에 위치해 있다. 모든 페어웨이는 뛰어 난 경관을 가지고 있는 독특한 18홀 골프장이다. 코스는 다소 짧은 총 5492(4970)m, 파 70(71)의 골프장으로서 1937년 첫 9홀로 개장한 이래 1970년 18홀 2차 개장 한 이 곳 퀸스타운 지역에서 역사적인 골프장 중 하나이다.

 

The picturesque Arrowtown Golf Club is set in Central Otago, one of New Zealand's most historic and scenic regions. This Golf Course is a must when playing Queenstown Golf, surrounded by mountains the 18 hole course has superb views from every fairway. Take time to play golf in this inspiring setting - it's unique!. The Arrowtown Golf Course was established in 1937 as a nine hole course. The second nine was opened in 1970.

4) 퀸스타운 잭스 포인트 골프장(Jack's Point Golf Course)

잭스 포인트 골프장은 주변의 아름다운 경치를 최대한 활용하여 디자인 한 것이 특징이다. 퀸즈타운의 또 하나의 골프명소 잭스 포인트 골프장 는 뉴질랜드에서 가장 최근에 개장한 리조트 코스로 와카티푸 호수 가에 자리 잡은 럭셔리 골프장 하나로서 퀸스타운에서 유일하게 드넓은(3천 에이커로서 대략 3백만평) 골프장내 주민(총 1천 3백 주택 건설)에게만 맴버쉽을 허용하고 있다.
