아름다운 얕은 백사장으로 서핑과 휴양지로 이름이 알려져서 많은 오클랜드 사람들이 찾아오는 우리 동네 오레와 비치에 최근 폭풍우가 몰아쳐 최고 1.8m 높이의 모래 절벽이 펼쳐져 화제다.

 

 

모처럼 오늘 비바람이 잔잔해서 우리도 아침에 해안가 구경겸 워킹을 위해 찾았는데 오늘은 코로나 19 상황에도 아랑곳 하지 않고 많은 사람들이 찾아와서 워킹  서핑을 즐기고 있었다.

 

물론, 지난 1 여름 코로나 19 팬데믹   아름다운 해안가에 상어가 출현해서 비치가 폐쇄되기도 하였다.

 

그리고 지금 겨울 지난주 계속된 악천후로 인해 오클랜드 북쪽 해변에 최고 1.8미터높이의 모래 절벽이 형성되었다. 더구나 오레와 해변의 수천 입방 미터의 모래가 놓여진  불과 며칠 만에 파도에 휩쓸려서 일부 지역민들을 좌절시켰다고 언론은 전했다.

 

 

건설업자들은 화요일  지역의 침식을 막기 위한 오클랜드 위원회의 최근 노력의 일환에도 불구하고 모래를 침식시켰는데 지난주 목요일까지 계속 모래가 풍풍우로 침식되어 해안선 200m ~ 300m 걸쳐 70cm에서 1.8m 높이의 둑이 형성되었다고 한다.

 

 

 비치는 매년 대형 트럭 운반자들은 오레와 보호구역 근처의 해변 남쪽 끝에서 북쪽끝으로 5000에서 8000 입방미터의 모래를 이동시킨다. 모래 이동비용은 대략 5 달러에서 10 달러 정도 발생한다고 했다.

 

 

그래서 의회는 최근 침식에 대한 영구적인 해결책으로 해변 600m 구간에 방파제와산책로를 건설하기 위한  법정 싸움에서 승리해서 이에 대한 해결이 완결될 것으로 전망하고 있다.

 

이곳 해안가 공원  비치는 대략 6,7Km 구간으로 우리도 오늘 대략 2시간에 걸쳐 모처럼 상쾌한 워킹을 즐겼다.

after bad weather hit the area.
Waves washed away thousands of cubic metres of sand at Ōrewa beach just days

after it was laid, frustrating some locals.

 

Contractors deposited the sand on Tuesday as part of Auckland Council’s latest effort

to combat erosion in the area. But by Thursday the sand had eroded, creating a bank

between 70cm and 1.8m high over a 200m to 300m stretch of shoreline

 

Each year earthmovers relocate between 5,000 and 8,000 cubic metres of sand from the southern

end of the beach near Orewa Reserve to the northern end.

 

The transfers are estimated to cost from $50,000 to $100,000 each. The council recently won

a lengthy court battle to build a seawall and walkway along a 600m section of the beach

as a permanent solution to erosion.
